Review on Enhance Flash Range with Better Beamer FX-3 for Canon 580EX II, Nikon SB-700 & More by Rob Madden

Great way to extend your flash

Better Beam projects the light from your flash further than a single flash. It's easy to attach to the flash, I've found that the Better Beam doesn't sag when I attach it securely. As stated in the instructions, Better Beamer is designed to be used with "long” telephoto lenses, meaning lenses with a focal length of 300mm. or longer. It can be used with shorter lenses, but the light is tightly focused, leaving a bright center and darker edges. It adds a creative night effect to your photos. And yes, Better Beam can be used when the flash is off. There is simply a minimum distance between the flash and the subject. You may have to experiment to find out. However, if the flash images are too bright when the flash/enhanced beam is close to the subject, try using the flash without the enhanced beam. And yes, the improved beam saves battery power. A word of WARNINGS. The Better Beam lens can focus the sun - if your flash is aimed at the sun, there's a good chance the Better Beam lens will focus the sun and potentially melt the hole in the flash. So be careful. All in all a great tool to increase the power of your flash and extend battery life. There's a good chance the Better Beam's lens will focus the sun and potentially melt a hole in your flash.
