Most of the time it works. We plugged it into an outlet and it beeped and after a few minutes or so it read zero. The instructions state that the device will emit a slow beep when the number reaches 3. The alarm will sound faster when the level reaches 6-9. I love how easy it is to use, just plug it in, but I don't like that it takes up the entire outlet. The bottom is too round and covers the bottom outlet so much that you can't put another plug in it. It looks like you can use a different outlet, but you can't. Please note that you will lose the ability to use any outlet you plug this into.
