Peace of Mind - Gas Detectors and Alarms

I have natural gas in my house and I'm concerned. Let one of them be in my laundry room and the other in the kitchen. It is not recommended to spray anything alcohol based nearby as it may cause a bug. They're big and stick out like a sore thumb, but they warn you long before you know there's a gas leak, even a very small one.

Not sure if it works

I found it important to get a gas leak detector because we have a gas oven and stove. My nose is good at spotting, but I wanted something more specific. It's easy to use, just plug it in. After four minutes, the data will appear on the screen. Mine has shown 0 since I plugged it in. I have no way to verify the accuracy. That seems normal. The packaging looks cheap.

The instructions state that the device will emit a slow beep when the number reaches 3. The alarm will sound faster when the level reaches 6-9. I love how easy it is to use, just plug it in, but I don't like that it takes up the entire outlet. The bottom is too round and covers the bottom outlet so much that you can't put another plug in it. It looks like you can use a different…

Everything seems fine. But. Where to mount?

I just moved into a house with gas heating and water heaters and my lungs are pretty sensitive so I want to avoid exhaust fumes. It's a useful device, but the installation instructions seem cryptic to me. The instructions state that natural gas must be mounted under the ceiling. (Set it low for propane because propane is heavier.) So, here's the deal: It's a plug-in device. None of my outlets are under the ceiling. The only ones that aren't near the floor are under the kitchen cabinets, and…
