A great extra layer of security. They are designed for hollow axle bikes so the skewer rod itself simply slides through the metal tube that the bike frame/fork sits on. So make sure that the frame is firmly seated on the hollow steel axle before tightening the tensioner inside. Otherwise, the weight of the load will go through the thin shaft of the skewer rather than the hollow axle, which should take most of the load (your skewer may break). In terms of security, it's not a perfect lock and key system, but it certainly helps increase the time it takes someone to collect your wheel (it also took me longer to take the wheel off). However, I find it to be a better wheel guard than simple screws or Allen key skewers. Of course you can defeat him by conventional means, but that requires at least unconventional methods of intervention.
