I bought this to attach to my portable solar panel to monitor voltage/wattage/amps when plugged into specific outlets (typically 12v for charging car batteries). I was concerned that it can hurt if the solar panel goes out, but it is powered both ways and can read the wattage rating either way. Even if the solar array has died and I convert it to a device instead, it still shows the power even if it's moving in the opposite direction. .I have no way of verifying the readings, so I can't judge the accuracy
