Review on Pearl IZUMi Softshell Jacket Medium by Brian Tompkins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Lots of performance in a lightweight jacket

I'm 5-11 years old, 165 and medium fits well - snug but not tight. It's fairly light and feels no different than my lined winter tank top (which I ride in temperatures of 40-60 degrees). right on the temperature. It's a little over the shoulders as far as the wind goes, but a decent long-sleeved undershirt will keep any of that from hitting your skin. I can't say anything about the water resistance yet, since it was a dry autumn. Works well at temperatures down to 20 with a warm base coat or two. It's too light underneath - you'll need to wear a thicker jacket. ***Update - I just rode in 20 degrees with 2 long sleeve base layers (1 cotton, 1 polyester) and felt great - amazing! Update #2 - worn yesterday in light rain, 48 degrees - stayed completely dry. Workmanship and pockets are good - a matter of quality. I will definitely buy again.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • poorly designed
