A tried and trusted design that probably predates me. I'm 45 but don't let the small size fool you. Even small versions of these things need a powerful air pump to work effectively, especially when bacteria and debris builds up. Also, the picture isn't quite right. See this filter media below? Looks like mostly bio rings and some gravel right? Well, it'll be mostly gravel with MAYBE 5 or 6 bio rings when you take it out of the box. It's ok, just expect a lot more gravel there than on the media itself. And the black stuff in the middle is a sponge, not charcoal. Pretty obvious, and you can add some carbon if you want, but just so you know, there's no carbon in it.
