Review on πŸ’§ NP 1SG Replacement Cartridge – Enhanced Compatibility with Neo Pure by Joe Garczynski

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Bad seagull imitation! Avoid this product!

After many years of purchasing the original replacement cartridge for our General Ecology Seagull IV X-1F (CA) Water Filter Replacement Cartridge - RS-1SG, we chose PurestOne because of the great reviews. Unfortunately I accidentally ordered this cartridge instead (a mistake on my part, be careful with Revain when looking for compatible cartridges). The good news is that it is true to size and filters the water. The bad news is that it appears to be about 1/5th of Chaika's time. So half the price isn't a bargain. Also, the flow rate achieved from the factory was lower than that of the Seagull cartridge. The service life of the water filter cartridge depends on the amount of water that is passed through. Typically, we have found that the end of filter life symptom is the first symptom of either: 1) reduced water flow or 2) failure to remove chlorine. In our home of two adults (who drink plenty of water), seagull blockage typically lasts over a year, sometimes up to 18 months. This filter we bought from Revain showed end of life symptoms after 2 months and we had to replace it after 3 months. The water flow has been greatly reduced (fortunately the chlorine is still not getting through). We have ordered and installed a real PurestOne to try as an alternative to this and General Ecology devices and it is already doing much better. Much better flow rate and great tasting water. I would recommend PurestOne as a cheaper alternative to Seagull. Note that this RS-1SG-RC cartridge looked normal from the outside when I removed it. When I replaced them they weren't as dirty as our previous cartridges. So, just by observation, I'd say it's a lot easier to clog than general ecology. PurestOne's specs are impressive, so we're trying it out right now.
