Review on πŸ”§ Dorman Transmission Mount Bushing 917-037 by Anthony Shepherd

Nice build, should be a press if you don't do what I did.

Bought this bushing for my 2005 Mercury Montego not realizing that the bushing can only be removed from the car with a press tool (which I don't have) and the only way to get this new bushing is with help too to use the press. The rings you see in the product image are for use with a press. With a little rigging you can (maybe) find a way to use it with a large C-clamp and remove/insert the sleeve properly. in my case such a method did not occur to me. For starters, the product I received included instructions on how to insert/remove the sleeve with a press, as well as instructions on how to properly align it in the press. Since I don't have abs, I didn't use this option. In terms of build quality the hub is well made, has more rubber than many other hubs I've looked at and is currently running great in my car. .Now not very professional advice! Use at your own risk! As I don't have a press and couldn't think of a way to remove/insert the bushing I had to come up with another method. Blade through the OLD bushing still in the mount and then cut the inside of the bushing through the outer metal collar but NOT into the aluminum bracket! This cut on the OLD bushing reduces the OD of the metal ring so it can be pushed/tapped out much easier. back to the hacksaw again, on the NEW bushing I cut through the metal bushing on the outside and only cut through the metal bushing not the rubber! to be precise, I placed the cut right in the middle of the large rubber bead on the inside (product image, the bead is at the top of the sleeve). This again reduced the outer diameter of the collar, allowing it to be easily inserted into the mount. I still had to use a C clip to set it in its final position. Will it break after cutting? most likely not as on my car the bushing is rigidly attached to the bracket and support arm. I would only recommend this method to people who like me have no other choice, if you can push/push the jack out then I suggest going this route before anything else! and again, don't cut the aluminum bracket! only black metal flange bushings. I would buy this product again if I need it and find someone with a press tool to remove/insert the bushing properly. If you poke around you can also buy a Just case (Anker, #3182), it's not as well made as this case but a lot cheaper.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
