be gentle the best among tripods and monopods

i have had this grip for a year and a half, during which time it has been used several times and stored with the rest of my gopro stuff. I was going to use it at the beach this morning and the hand holding the nut cracked. The slits on it are a little tight, which is why a crack appeared.
