Review on 🎧 Koss Pro4S Studio Headphones - Full Size, Black/Silver by Edward Henderson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well made and sounds good

Bought the Koss Pro4S in a moment of weakness and seems to like it. They're better than my Sennheiser HD 650 and HD 580, but have surprisingly tight low-end, if not overdone or over-emphasized. I'm a professional musician and I can't see myself tracking or mixing with these banks: no flat frequency response and a stupid short cable. But they're great for cinema: the lower highs and upper mids are boosted, which makes dialogue stand out (unlike my Sennheiser cans). But, yeah, not a smooth reaction as one would expect from "Pro" cans. However, they're perfect for music and movies that suffer from muddy mixes. Music with pronounced highs is tiring and makes me reach for Sennheiser cans. Also, the soundstage isn't as open and spacious as Sennheiser's or my M-Audio monitors: placing musicians in a stereo mix sounds a bit compressed on the Pro4S. I don't find the Pro4S as comfortable as the Sennheiser ones: the cups are small and flatten the ears. As mentioned above, the only thing I really didn't like about the Pro4S was the stupid coiled cable: too short and always in the way. You can't play guitar or record with that annoyingly short cable. In addition, the spiral design makes it act like a spring that constantly hits instrument and microphone stands. However, if you can find a cable with a mini pin that fits in the little hole in the cup, you can throw that coiled thing away. I've tried 4 different cables and oddly enough, the Revain 'Basics' stereo cable with 3.5mm mini plug is perfect! In general, I like these banks. They're not perfect, but they're well made for Benjamin and perfect for certain purposes, which is why I have so many headphones for my dad.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks
