A Good Choice for Compliant Small Dogs

My robust (large chest for his size) 22 lb. dog really likes this comfortable harness and so do I. The Medium size just fits when the chest strap is extended to it's fullest. I don't know what the seller was thinking when they posted their listing on Best Buy, which says dogs up to 52 lbs. can wear a Medium, with a picture of a larger dog wearing a Medium. That said, this harness is very lightweight and easy to put on. The dog has to step through one loop, and then the chest strap needs go behind his front legs to be buckled. My dog is generally good on his leash and only pulls occasionally, so the lightness of this harness works for him. When he does pull, it's nice to know I'm not putting a lot of strain on his neck, and he responds to the direction I'm guiding him better than he did on when I leashed him by the collar. Even though the harness fits snugly across his chest, when I guide him sideways, the harness does slip a little across his back in the direction I'm pulling, but he gets the idea and goes where I want him to.Due to it's lightness and tendency to slip just a little, I would NOT recommend this harness for a dog that pulls a lot of the time, or that is not very obedient. A dog with those tendencies needs a sturdier harness. But for my dog who only pulls occasionally, this harness has worked great and he finds it very comfortable. He has learned to step through the loop and patiently waits for me to buckle the chest strap, so I'm fortunate.

Pros
  • Great for dogs with sensitive skin or allergies
Cons
  • The harness may not be strong enough to prevent dogs from breaking free
