Purchased to use under a 17 inch laptop which gets very hot. Works great, fits almost perfectly and keeps the laptop (and my feet!) cooler than the laptop as usual. If you are a crafty person you can put a slatted pillow underneath to cushion it and still let the air through. but the lack of such a pillow is why this thing isn't worth more than $100. and we use it almost every day with comfort and ease. Would recommend to others and will likely buy again. Note: The mouse pad is a thin sheet, so you may need to replace it one day. But for the same reason, replacing it will be fairly easy (I believe it will last a year or two with heavy use; longer with gentle to moderate use). for us, but definitely wish I knew!
