worked out of the box, but wouldn't charge after that.

As another reviewer mentioned, this worked initially but after the battery needed charging, the included charger cable would not charge it, nor would any of the other cables I had (and believe me, I have A LOT of cables).

Takes a bit to charge up, but works great. I use it not to warm my hands, I throw it into my sleeping bag at night while camping in the cold and it keeps me warm all night.
