News, this is not henna. This is "neutral henna" or cassia obovata. And it's unfortunate that many of the one-star reviews come from people who blatantly refuse to read a product's label before buying it, only to give a bad review out of desperation. Cassia obovata is not suitable for coloring darker hair. Instead, it's designed to strengthen and condition the hair without damaging the curls like red henna does. When I apply it to my hair while combing it, it breaks less, becomes softer and looks shinier after application. The only downside is that it's expensive for the advertised amount, around $1.25 an ounce, while many other powders are cheaper.
