They are perfect for developing fine motor skills. My 8 month old baby loves them. She chews it with all the 2 1/2 teeth she has. She shakes it and bangs it against other toys and the wall to make different sounds. She also touches the fine details of the relief images on the cube with her finger. The creaking is not loud at all. These are soft dice; However, when you tap it, you will hear a knock that resembles the sound of wood. As such, they're not like super soft rubber or a baby bottle teat. Some animal and shape names on the dice that would be useful to know: 1- Mouse / Quatrefoil (/kadərfoil/)] 2- Cow / Hexagon 3- Square / Tiger 4- Triangle / Rabbit 5- Circle / Dragon 6mm. circle sector? / snake 7 - star / horse 8 - heart / lamb 9 - club (presumably addition sign) / monkey 0 - stripe (presumably subtraction sign) / chicken Small addition sign - flower / dog Small subtraction sign - trapezoid / pig so it should be like that. It would be fun to know which one your child is. :P
