I can put this gate at the top of the stairs. Our previous gates that we dismantled had rails that we had to remove because they were a different size. I read the instructions several times and proceed to install the first braces. I had to remove them because the instructions never specify the orientation of the brackets. Then he asks me to place the bottom screw hole in the top bracket 25 inches above the top screw hole in the bottom bracket. I drilled through my tree after carefully measuring as instructed and when I try to put the gate in it deflects 11 inches. The wood screws they give you are poor quality zinc screws and couldn't start without first drilling a hole for the screw and even with that I still removed 2 screws to only install the first 2 mounting brackets. Avoid this product!
