Instructions were confusing and when reading reviews I understand how this can lead to problems. I believe the problem is distinguishing between a cement install and a drywall install. I made a drywall. The drywall inserts are yellow (as opposed to white for cement, which isn't listed anywhere in the instructions I've seen). The screws match the yellow inserts perfectly. I don't know what size drill bit I used (I couldn't find anywhere in the manual where it says so) but it was the largest I had and too small so I had to hammer in the inserts. The hardest part was finding it on the stand, as it was obvious to me that the seller was absolutely convinced that screwing four screws straight into the stand would guarantee a solid shelf. Unfortunately, my studs weren't close enough together for this; and they weren't where I wanted to put a shelf. I compromised and adjusted one of the holes on the inner shelf with a bolt. I did NOT use two screws on each side as instructed; Instead, I used one on each side, which ended up only having five screws and only one in the stud. He looks very strong to me! Definitely strong enough for a plant! Finally, I installed two small screws on the underside of the shelf (not where the instructions say I found them). Presumably they keep the shelf from sliding off the brackets, so I'm pretty sure it's necessary. I would definitely buy more of these shelves!
