My daughter is usually a small 4-6 but this suit listed the medium as 4-6 so I went ahead and got the medium because I assumed this suit was made small since the numbers were different than all the other suits I looked at, which all had small listed as 4-6. But the swimsuit is definitely just a regular medium, I would base your size pick on the s/m/l guide and not on the size number guide. So it's too big for my daughter but its beautiful and great quality. We will keep it and hope it fits next year!
