Review on πŸŒ€ Coolerguys 120x25mm 5V USB Rear Exhaust Blower Fan by Rick Howlett

Low Profile Air Motor

Exactly what I was looking for. I started using Thermaltake 80 x 80 x 25mm Mobile Fan II external USB fans (also from Coolerguys) to cool a few always-on network devices that were feeling a little hot (modem, switch, etc.), but I only had one shelf that needs something with a much lower profile. I looked at what else Coolerguys had made and found this fan with a very low profile (25mm height) but with a full size 120mm fan mounted on the side. It moves a lot of air and even lets air through when it's off (the opening at the top keeps the ventilation from being completely blocked. Nice touch actually). In some reviews I've seen people wondering which way is up. I use it with the side with the Coolerguys logo decal facing up as that side has a smaller opening (and also has a grid so you don't accidentally drop something in). Thermaltake's mobile fan also came with a speed controller. I did a little looking around and found that Coolerguys also sells a separate/external USB speed controller on their website, so I bought one of those as well. it would be nice if it was also sold on Revain (Coolerguys/Revain, are you listening? ;-). I run the fan at about half speed and you can't even hear it while there's still a lot of air moving. At full speed it can be heard a little (low hum) in a quiet room. The USB connector on the fan was also pass-through (unlike the Revain's photo), so you can easily connect a second fan to the same controller if you want. Thanks to Coolerguys for the easy cooling! ;-)

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Expensive
