A little noisy but the Onkyo gets the job done for my receiver.

The fan is a bit noisy, but once the sound comes on in my home theater I don't notice it at all. It's only when the volume is turned off or very, very low that I hear a slight hum. While it doesn't bother me, I can see it being a problem for some. A fan is great if your AV receiver is in a hard-to-reach spot, as it blows the hot air sideways (backwards or in the direction you point the exhaust). not up. I have an Onkyo receiver and they are notoriously hot. Even after many hours of operation…

Ideal for home cinema.

This is a very quiet, powerful USB powered multi-purpose fan with 4 bars on rubber grommets. I have a built-in wall cabinet with a glass frame door to store my multimedia components. Although the back of the case is open and there is only a black mesh curtain on the back, it is warm all around the amp. This fan was small enough to be placed on top of the amp and blow air horizontally out the back of the case. The fan reduced the heat inside the case significantly, probably by 75% (estimate…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Defective

Coolerguys 120mm USB fan with USB/USB pass-through.

I bought two of these fans; one that replaces the Thermaltake USB fan I used on top of my AV receiver so air is drawn in from the top and expelled from the back. This fan improved airflow and performed very well or better than before, dropping temperatures from 120Β°F without the fan to around 80Β°F with the fan. The other is used alongside two tiny Lenovo clients mounted vertically, and so far one fan has improved airflow around the two clients. Overall not a bad fan, they are quiet and have…

Some strange "fan ".

UPDATE: Reading the reviews, it seems I'm not the only one confused by the question "which side is the fan sucking air from?". Perhaps the presence of the string "above" confused me. looks like bad design but I don't design fans. I was planning to put this fan on the top of the PC to dissipate and blow out the heat from the bottom of the fan (the PC's heat). Back of the fan (square side) and to the side. For some reason the fan pulls air from the top of the fan (or maybe top and bottom) and…

Low Profile Air Motor

Exactly what I was looking for. I started using Thermaltake 80 x 80 x 25mm Mobile Fan II external USB fans (also from Coolerguys) to cool a few always-on network devices that were feeling a little hot (modem, switch, etc.), but I only had one shelf that needs something with a much lower profile. I looked at what else Coolerguys had made and found this fan with a very low profile (25mm height) but with a full size 120mm fan mounted on the side. It moves a lot of air and even lets air through…

Great fans, a bit noisy but fixable

I bought 2 of these fans to cool the amp that is in a media cabinet with less than 2 inches between the top of the amp and the bottom of the amp stands next shelf. With such a small top clearance, there was no way the amp could stay cool enough relying on convection airflow alone. The fans move enough air to keep the amp cool, but they're noisy. Since everyone thinks "loud" is something, I'll describe it this way: The fans are loud enough that I can hear them during conversational scenes in a…

Pros
  • Many will fit
Cons
  • That makes me nervous
