Review on Acurel Budget-friendly Activated Carbon Filter Pellets for Optimized Filtration by Leslie Sharp

Revainrating 2 out of 5

All activated carbons made in the chain are not the same

All activated carbons made in China are not the same. I usually buy Petco coal pellets at twice the price of Acurel. When I received the Acurel I immediately compared it to the Petco product. While Acurel stated it was pre-washed, it was actually covered in charcoal dust and even had a slightly greyish tint compared to the Petco, which was all black before the wash. When I washed the Acurel to activate, the water at the bottom of the bucket turned quite dark. Eventually, this product was used in a 40 gallon aquarium pump. It didn't really clean the water and didn't work as well as the other product. For the price what it is. I pay more for a product that I think is better. So today I went back to Petco and bought a replacement part instead of reordering Acurel.
