This replaced my daily-wear hook carbiner, clipped to my flashlight and pill container, with something that does the same thing and more (lighter and bottle opener). If you use Zippo lighter fluid it will evaporate quickly if the seal is not tight. In any case, the flint starter will require a few strikes to light if you haven't used it in a while. I found the best strike method is to:- keep the angle of the match (the tube) and rail (on the body) around 90 degrees- apply downward pressure, though not so much that you can't reliably avoid slippage of the rails (which *will* scratch the body)- the striking move should be fast but not so fast that you can't reliably come to a near-stop just as you reach the end of the railAlways make sure the fluid isn't dry before going out and doing something important with it. It's not a "carry and forget" deal like a BIC lighter. However, with occasional wick replacements, a little bottle of zippo or paraffin oil will go a *long* way with this; no need for a mountain of lighters in a landfill somewhere. That same fuel bottle can be used for whatever else, unlike the fluid stuck in a disposable lighter.
