I have an HP Officejet Pro 8630 printer so that goes for the entire 8600 series. I rarely use color inks. For a long time I had original HP inks in my printer without replacement. We all know that HP has made it so that you cannot only print in black even if a color cartridge is empty. I could literally run the printer without color ink if I would let it. Since I rarely use colored ink and since I ran out of blue and only had a few other colors I went with this cheap ink. This decision almost killed a very expensive printer. I bought these cartridges directly from the LxTek seller in September 2018. In January 2019, I receive a "Printer Error" message stating something is wrong with the ink supply system. And since the chips on these cartridges don't give any specific information about the printer, like it's empty or some other problem, I had to guess what the problem was. By the way, the black ink was the original HP 950XL cartridge. If you see this error message, the printer is completely blocking your touch screen operations. I couldn't check the ink levels or access a menu. When I opened the cartridge door and found all the cartridges contained ink, I panicked that the printhead was damaged. After removing a cartridge, the printer UI will unlock and let you know that it is out of ink, but you can check the ink level. I always carry an empty set of HP carts with me to stop by to regain control and diagnose the problem. To the best of my knowledge, I found that within a few months this ink would clog the print head or the chip would fail. The ink hasn't even expired yet, but if you don't use the color inks regularly they can clog the printheads (confirmed by LxTek in an email). The LxTek seller helped me by giving me a full refund a few months after purchase even though I didn't ask for it. Which also tells me they know that this ink can cause problems. I ordered a new HP ink set and like magic the printer came back to life. I really thought the printhead was damaged and since these printers are no longer made it's not easy to get an expensive replacement part. After the new ink was in, I cleaned the printheads and went through all the options in the Tools menu to get them back to normal. If you clean the print heads via the interface, the printer can go through 3 phases. this and then says to call HP if the problem is not resolved. So I had to run this function twice for a total of 6 printhead cleanings before the ink went back to normal, wasting a ton of expensive ink. PLEASE do yourself a favor and only buy this cheap color ink if you intend to use it regularly or run into an issue that could cost you your printer. I think they dry out very quickly in the print head, which is why I had this problem. I know buying HP ink sucks because it's so expensive, but it's worth paying every 6-12 months or whenever you keep your printer running. smooth. I've learned my lesson. From now on it's real ink. I was trying to cut corners and almost lost my printer in the process. Don't repeat the same mistake!
