I saw reviews of how slippery the surface was and thought it might be a good thing to cut the fuss, but that might be true , but the pattern helps with accuracy, you end up losing precision because it's difficult to keep the mouse pointer exactly where it's supposed to be, fly where you intended to land, etc. I believe this is a similar problem with some of these new controls. by wire cars. Difficult to drive because our minds are programmed to expect and use the feedback that used to be felt in a traditional mechanically steered car. I'm sure you can get used to it and maybe even prefer it at some point, but in the beginning you have to think about mouse movements, whereas before it was more automatic; Here, less friction actually means more work. It's a subtle difference, but it's surprising how annoying it is. Feels and sounds no different than using a mouse on a smooth desk surface without a mouse pad. And get used to it and I'm sure using regular friction pads would be a problem because you would have to think too much. I can use some medium grit sandpaper to see if that helps.
