A little more work, big savings

The purchase was a small leap of faith, but at ten bucks it seemed worth it. I have used Marineland filters which work very well and I recommend them. But they seem to clog up quickly (which I believe means they work) and need to be replaced. It's a little expensive. So I took the old filter, ripped the filter off the plastic backing with pliers, washed out the old carbon particles and used the plastic backing as a template. I cut the pinky filters with kitchen scissors using a plastic template. I'm the perfect size, no waste. I placed the now clean plastic backing back into the pump filter slots and simply slid the cut pinky filter in front of it. No elastics, no frills, the water keeps it in place and the sides are just snug too. These filters are great. I haven't had any paint leaching or anything, they just filter the water and I can change them as often as I see fit for literally pennies. If you don't mind spending some time trimming a wide sheet of filter media, or if you have kids who can call for trimming, this is a great aquarium filter solution. Six stars.
