When I installed my winch (WARN VR EVO 12-S) I was concerned about the possibility of a short circuit in the event of a frontal impact. There's also the (very unlikely) possibility that someone who knows what they're doing could be messing with the winch if it was always on, which is why I wanted to add a power outage. After spending a lot of time trying to find the best solenoid based on max current draw and duty cycle, I decided to just buy the kit that WARN sells. I didn't use the included toggle switch as I connected it to one of the factory AUX switches, but I did use part of the wiring harness to make the necessary connections. Haven't used it with heavy load yet but tested with light loads and it works as expected.
