I bought Philips bulbs because of their low price of $12.97 for 4 packs (with free shipping) compared to the 1800 lumen, 5500K BlueMax CFL bulbs I used, which cost $10. each plus shipping. I was surprised at how much more blue they put out compared to the BlueMax bulbs when they were first turned on. However, the brightness appears to be about the same. After running for about 30 minutes, I noticed that the Philips bulbs turned a natural blue color, more like sunlight, and got brighter. That's acceptable, but still bluer than the BlueMax bulbs, which I find to be the ideal color. You can see in the photo how the light from the Philips lamp above turns my oyster shell walls blue. For comparison: The bulb at the bottom is a BlueMax. By the way, Philips bulbs have exactly the same length and width as BlueMax bulbs.
