Good monitor for the price

This review is for the ViewSonic VA2246MH 22-inch LED Backlit Monitor and I use it as a second monitor with my I-Mac. I wanted the monitor to be roughly the same size as the iMac screen to maintain visual consistency. The monitor sits lower than most, with a 2-inch bottom clearance to the desk and an illuminated bottom of the screen 3 1/8 inches from the tabletop. Mine sits on a FITUEYES transparent monitor stand, which allows the I-Mac and ViewSonic screens to match in height almost perfectly. Overall I'm happy with the monitor, especially for this price range, so considering the price and features I'm giving it 5 stars. So now the negative. In order to get the right picture, you have to look directly into the monitor. The picture quality (color accuracy) quickly degrades at the slightest left-right angle, and the up-down angle is more forgiving. Using the Mac's built-in color profiles, I was able to find one that matched the I-Mac's screen. So if you look at both monitors, they match up pretty well. If you need a monitor that tilts frequently, this might not be the best choice. The tilt is so stiff that I was convinced that ViewSonic's tilt claims were wrong. I had to remove the stand from the monitor to free up the panning motion for movement. Even back then I had to use a screwdriver as a lever to get it moving the first time. Audio quality is pretty lame, but most monitors don't even have audio capabilities. The speakers are suitable for normal PC sounds, but not for music or videos. I share this monitor with a rarely used Windows PC and the audio is fine for that, the I-Mac has good audio so that's covered in my case. The monitor looks good overall and at around $100 don't be choosy. I would buy it again and would recommend it to others on a budget. Overall I give this monitor 4 stars due to its poor viewing angle and tilt.

Pros
  • Bought this monitor 2 years ago. I use it (and another exactly the same one) every day. Run like a champ!
Cons
  • Unattractive design
