I've had these electric logs for 3 months and use them every evening. That works fine. I only use it for fire effects and it's a great companion for us. We've always had fireplaces, but now the environment matters and there's too much work to do with a fireplace. We have a double fireplace open over the dining room. I put a cardboard board, three sided, behind the logs and the flames roar and dance. There was no cardboard showing from the dining room side, but I will add another batch of electric firewood from this side in the fall. Instead of a three-sided one, I'll probably have to put up a single cardboard wall. We don't use the heating function, but a metal wall would probably be better just in case.
