Review on Enhanced Wi-Fi Performance: Belkin F9K1007 N300 XR Wireless Router by Jeff Wieczorek

Picky as a diva

I use wired internet and my ISP provides a basic modem with no routing ability and I don't need WAN IP on my PC. I bought this router to have a private IP address and firewall and WiFi just in case. Pros: The interface is good for people who don't know anything about technology. This makes it easy for Grandma Moses to guide it. The only light in front is very dim. It has interesting features like scheduled reboots and power saving modes that turn off the hotspot at specific times. Cons: It's very picky. If my modem isn't loaded and ready to provide an IP address when the router asks for it (DHCP), the router won't allow web traffic. It redirects everything to http://router. I have to restart it when this happens. I have found that the internet on my wired PC (I have 50Mbps internet) loads pages fairly slowly or not at all and the firewall on the router is to blame. If you turn it off, then everything goes fine. When it's on, I just DON'T LIKE youtube.com. I don't like the simplified interface, but it still has all the features I need (DMZ, MAC address filtering, port forwarding, etc.). It generally works, but if you're a power user and don't want to get pissed off every time this stupid thing redirects you to its UI, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Some errors
