Review on πŸ”Œ Uxcell Adapter: High-Quality Solder Connector with Plated Finish by Justin Ferguson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Strong on the outside, brittle on the inside, NOT real gold (it's gold colored)

Not bad for the price but misleading product name. The plugs do not appear to be gold plated. This is a gold color. obviously a darker yellow than any genuine gold-plated plug. Time will tell if the connectors oxidize like some of the other fake gold connectors I've had. The outer "gold" ring is actually a separate part from the ground/crimped part (which is on the thin and weak side) which is only connected by crimping. It's not that noticeable on most connectors, but on some it's definitely loose and will move. I've soldered and used them so far and the connection is good so far, but I don't think it will last more than a few dozen uses. Another trifle is that each part has a red stripe and is not made up of pairs of different colors - it's time to remove the permanent markers. There is no strain relief, but that doesn't matter with the larger wire, almost the size of a hole. A solder cup (more of a screw-on cup, but I just removed the screw and soldered) will probably take 16GA wire at best. The plastic wrap is not shrink wrap and is a bit short so it could be a short from bad soldering or a bad screw. All connectors come in a small zipped pouch and there are some minor flaws in transit but they are still in decent condition. What's good: The body is knurled, very solid, and the connector screws in nicely. Just remember not to twist counterclockwise when removing. The B-pillar also feels solid and stiff. Easily accepts solder. These connectors are good for the price, but I have to splice sprockets without gold (honestly, I didn't read "Material: Metal; Color: Gold Tone, Silver Tone" in the description), weak base/wire crimp, and two-piece construction that compresses to be able to solve. It doesn't inspire confidence due to the relatively flimsy internal construction, but the exterior feels pretty solid. I am concerned about possible oxidation which will result in a fuzzier connection. Not bad for the price and I'll still use them until they fail, but I wouldn't give them away to anyone I care about. At 79 cents a piece it's a decent value at the time of writing, but I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere. Revain doesn't seem to have any good budget deals at the moment (the cheapest is an additional $1.70 each), BUT I think given the time it takes to make cables with them, it's probably worth it. You might as well pay the extra ($1 each) for a quality product like the Monoprice #6212 and have cables that you KNOW are 100% working.
