I had absolutely no idea what to expect from a mattress pad that claimed to be breathable yet waterproof, but I knew that waterproof protection was essential when I put my pup to bed for the first night. . I bought this product last year and have had several accidents since then. The first time was the night mentioned above when the puppy was placed in our makeshift bed. She only passed a small amount of urine in the early hours of the morning. To my delight, none of them went through the tread. Of course all bedding was washed and I am happy to report that there were no stains. Almost a year later the same protector was on our new mattress and was low and now it had a BIG accident, although this protector has been washed several times as one would expect with normal use I was afraid the lining might crack. . Again, nothing penetrated the tread and left no stains. The lining is soft, doesn't make any unpleasant noises and we didn't have any additional heat retention, so it looks like it's at least semi-breathable. Now my dog doesn't get into frequent accidents, but after a regular wash I'm impressed that he actually held out. So impressed I'm buying a backup now. My only honest concern with this is knowing when it's going to fire. The design is good, the product is high quality, but nothing lasts forever. I highly recommend!
