I really wanted to like this remote control. Small size, minimal buttons with good backlight and easy programming. While this remote appears to be teachable, it is unlike any other (I've used many cheap to expensive over the years) on the market. It appears to be learning the command from your original remote, but I think it first checks its built-in database to see if the command or protocol for that device it's receiving is actually in that database. If so, I think it's loading that command from its own database and not just copying the command it gets from the original remote. If it is not in its own database, the learning process will fail. All TV remotes I tried worked, but when I tried to learn the UP and channel DN commands from the TIVO remote it failed. No other learning remote I've owned would have learned from a TIVO remote. Obviously the TIVO command or protocol required for successful learning on this console is not in the database. I don't have a cable/satellite box to test it with, so I don't know if it can get the codes for any of them. As I said, this remote does not work like a real learning remote. If you just need to "learn" common TV remote control codes, you'll probably be fine. If they updated their database or switched to a regular learning process, it would work for more original remotes. All in all, this is a good deal if you want an easy 'learnable' remote with large, backlit buttons and only need this as a replacement for your regular TV remote. that would be great. Great for those struggling with the remote that has a lot of buttons that might confuse someone. John
