First off, I would like to start by saying that I made the decision to switch to K&N filters when my local dealer told me the air filters were $175 each. I always try to change my air filters when I change my oil, but at this price I could never afford it. I ordered my set on Thursday and received it on Saturday. Installation took my friend and I around 1.5 hours but we were in no hurry and seemed to have to figure out how to disassemble the well assembled MINI engine compartment. The instructions provided by K&N were more than adequate, but if you're new under the hood, there are plenty of solid YouTube videos that can help you with specific installation areas. 75 dB before K&N, 86 dB after. The feedback that you can finally hear the turbo is very accurate and I love giving the MINI a sporty look. Note that turbo noise is actually only audible in sport mode due to the activated turbo. Inside the cabin, noise levels have not been compromised while still providing a comfortable ride. You will feel an increase of 7-9 hp. and throttle response as soon as you make your first ride. Switching is even easier than before. I've added before and after photos to give you another look at the finished product (sorry for the dust). Tools needed for installation: 8-10mm sockets, T-20 bit, rotary knife (or rubber cutting method with a metal pad) and a standard screwdriver. There is a screw that requires about a 6 inch extension when using a ratchet, but is easily bypassed with a screwdriver handle.
