The handle does not go down and the backpack does not rise

Very disappointed with this backpack. My daughter has juvenile arthritis, she studies at home and goes to group twice a week. She used this backpack a total of 8 times before the handle went down! Since we use it so little I just skipped the window to get it back. This backpack only rises when there is almost nothing in it. I bought it to help my daughter get to and from school without help, unfortunately it was more of a hindrance than a help.
