I never noticed the connector on my chains until I got up a ladder to see if I could figure out how to install this new chain. The connector is about 2 inches from the light on one chain and 5 inches below it on the other chain. It was easy to detach the old one to put in the new one. Then I thought. I reconnected the old one, got off the stool, took the scissors, climbed onto the stool and cut the old chain between two beads much lower. I then tied a new chain to the bottom bead and now I can reach the chains without a ladder. It's way better and it was so easy. It's so great I came back here to buy another set - this time for a fan over the bed so you can easily tell which chain to pull in the dark. And I'll probably lower it a few inches.
