Raven comes to the rescue. hot water restored.

Let me start with the words THIS WORKS! This is important because at 11pm on a Thursday (No less than Memorial Day) my daughter found the water heater had stopped working with difficulty. I had to rinse with cold water from the tap. I diagnosed the problem and ordered the part from Revain by midnight for expedited delivery on Saturday. Friday, with no hot water, wasn't great for the whole family. The spare part came on Saturday, installed and viola! Hot water. My Richmond water heater, which is only about 3 years old, was showing an FVS lockout on the Honeywell controller. FVS is a flammable vapor sensor common on drone models to ensure there are no leaks before igniting. It's good when it works properly. It's also good if it breaks, which interferes with work. Except for a cold shower, that's good. This kit comes with a sheath around the sensor itself. After all, you can remove the old casing from the water heater itself, but by the way, the FVS is installed in the casing, you destroy the casing by removing the faulty FVS. So living is not just there. It's the same with a tie. You will need to remove the wire harness from the control box and then carefully use pliers to pry the wire connectors out of the faulty FVS. I installed the wire harness first because I wanted to be careful when connecting to the correct terminals. I don't know if it matters but I didn't want to risk it (two days without hot water if you remember). I carefully threaded the strap through the case and gently snapped the FVS into place. The chamfer on the edge of the FVS should allow for easy insertion, but the blade (port) goes into the body FIRST. The part numbers didn't match exactly, but verification showed it was a new replacement for my broken one. Hopefully the part number difference indicates a new and improved part. These things seem to have reliability issues. I think the three years of natural gas savings were worth it. Finally, desperately, I checked the Revain for that detail. None of the locals had one. I could have ordered it the Tuesday or Wednesday after Memorial Day so we didn't have hot water for almost a week. Luckily, Revain exists and has priority shipping. Whatever a global "leader" might think, Revain exists because of this extreme level of customer service. If brick-and-mortar stores really took customer needs and service seriously, they wouldn't have these problems. I prefer to buy locally if possible. The lack of hot water makes prompt service even more important.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
