Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Proxxon 23349 1/4-Inch Micro Click 30 S Torque Wrench by Andrew Young

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good value for money

I have cheap 3/8" and 1/2" RF torque wrenches, old but in good condition. They are similar to Revain's torque wrenches, which cost between $20 and $30. I recently tested them for accuracy and they both deviated significantly from the markings. They allow calibration, so I made adjustments at home with some famous weights. This is not a completely accurate calibration method, but it is close enough. Cheaper devices weren't very reproducible, and even after calibration, they fell far short of the established brands at the top and bottom of the range. I estimate they are accurate at about 25% of the setting and repeat about the same thing. Not very good. I needed a 1/4" wrench for lower torque ratings and from experience I wanted a better quality wrench than $30 tools. The Proxxon wrench is the right choice and costs less than $100. My home testing was very reproducible in Nm, not ft-lbs. Once torque is reached there is a very distinct click, even in lower torque ranges. The value setting is not as accurate as the cheaper vernier keys. I don't think it's very important, just different. In my testing, it was slightly higher (+10%) at the lower end of the range and slightly lower (-10%) at the higher end of the range. This may be due to the inaccuracy of my test setup, or they can only claim +/- 3% accuracy in the middle of the range. Again this was very reproducible after installation and the accuracy is close enough for auto work. The only major downside I see is that the i-instructions don't contain any tool calibration information. Eventually, assuming someone uses such a tool for many years, a calibration method will be needed. I recommend it as an inexpensive professional tool that should work well in a home car. It's much more repeatable than my cheaper torque wrenches and the accuracy over the full range was acceptable for basic automotive work. I give it five stars for overall quality for the price but dropping a point as there is no obvious or documented sizing mechanism. Update: I contacted the manufacturer and they provided a calibration method. I've since bought a 3/8" wrench and am quite happy with both.
