Review on Nikon 25395 MC DC2 Remote Release by Joshua Overacre

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Much better design than the previous version

About a year ago I bought an Opteka remote shutter release for my Nikon D3100. When I received it, the first thing I noticed was that the plug on the shutter button didn't want to go into the GPS socket on the camera without a lot of effort. That should have been my first clue. I installed it and sharing seemed to work fine. I could open it up for star photography or just use it normally. After about the third time I removed the connector from the camera body, the metal collar surrounding the cable connector remained in the camera body. I was able to remove it with a small needle nose pliers. After a while I just left the damn thing there. The shutter button worked but wasn't very firm and intermittently fell out of the camera until I started taping it onto the tripod. What a pain in the ass. What do you get for $4.95? Some cheap Chinese thing made in a forced labor camp. Eventually the plug just gave out a genie, and all the wires at its end stood up as if they had seen a genie. So I screwed up this nonsense. Decided to spend more money on the next version and bought a Nikon device for 6 times the money, but if it works properly, is it worth it? Well, that's for me anyway. When I received the device I was surprised that it was smaller than the Opteka device I had before in every way. The cord had a smaller diameter. The connector also fits the camera much better than the Opteka device. That works fine. I look forward to new photos of Stellar this year. Is this device worth $24.95? Of course, if it works the way it's supposed to and doesn't give me constant headaches like the Opteka device did. This is a high-end DSLR camera accessory, so yes, it's going to be a bit pricey, but it's within my tight budget. Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes, I already have. David Profit.
