Not for well water
Probably a good city water filter. I have well water that is high in iron. The filter is small, about 1 inch in diameter. And 5 inches long, it has a valve at the bottom to drain the filter so you don't have to take it apart to clean it. With the fountain I cleaned it every day without using much water (one person per house). I tried the cheap way but it just cost me more time and money.
