Made of thin plastic. It slides across the counter when the lid is pressed. I was afraid of pressing too hard and breaking the lid. THIS IS NOT NON-STICK PLASTIC. The resulting schnitzel sticks to the inside and to the lid. You have to almost completely destroy the patty to remove it. I had to put wax paper on the top and bottom to keep it from sticking. Then flip it over and hit it to get a burger. I consider other reviewers to be paid reviewers - my experience didn't even come close to what they said. I returned it the next day. I'll look for something more secure that won't slip in use. Available in metal and with rubber feet. Maybe with a removable bottom to pop the patty out like on a baking sheet.
