Review on πŸ” Enhanced Lid Support: SafeStay Lid Stay 105Β° Open with Soft Close, Simple Installation for Toy Boxes and Chests by Dhoal Shankar

Product works well with cabinet hardware

I bought these to achieve a soft closing of a fairly heavy window seat lid with storage underneath. In my application, the box has a 2-1/4" front frame with a 3/4" overhang on either side of the 3/4" stock. The interior molding required the use of a 3/4" thick plank (which I glued). and nailed on both sides) for the mounting bracket so that the body side is flush with the front frame. Hopefully the rest of this review will resolve some of the difficulties I encountered during installation. Not realizing how important the weight of the lid is, I installed the lid without weighing it; which, as I later learned, is undesirable. First I used 6 slow closing compact Blum closet doors because I figured 6 would be enough to slow the closing - not even closing! After a long search I bought two of these hinges. As you can see from the attached videos and pictures, they hold the lid open well and close slowly. After some trial and error I may decide to add another loop or two for a slower descent. Installation was a little tricky, but once I found the correct diagram in the instructions for my type of application (Figure 4), I was able to install the right (lid-facing) hinge with ease. The only difficulty was that the hinge mechanism didn't match the picture, so I asked the seller for help to clarify that the end of the hinge that attaches to the hinge plate can be rotated 180Β° to fit the bolt onto the move other side. The desired end result when installing the hinge in this type of application (window seat or chest with a working lid) is to have the pin and round part of the hinge mechanism on the same side, as shown in the image in the "Step" section. 2 .Apparently the bolt for the drop down door on the top cabinet has to be in the other direction and hence comes 'backwards' for the chest application. If you flip the end of the bobby pin it's best to use pliers as it's quite stiff.i contacted the seller beforehand as I was concerned I might damage the mechanism and render it unusable. Looking back I think it is obvious it could have been flipped over without damage. Fitting the left hinge was a little confusing. Upon further contact with the seller it was determined that the best rule of thumb was to have the bolts on the mounting plate on both the right and a m left hinge should point toward top inside corner of cabinet. Again, probably obvious in hindsight! I hope this review helps to simplify the installation for those who have a similar situation. Conclusion: I am very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it unreservedly. The seller was very prompt and helpful in answering my questions.
