Review on Sony MDR-EX800ST In-Ear Headphones (Japan Import) - Enhanced SEO by Monique Franco

Absolutely amazing IEMs - more or less cable replacement required

Sounded absolutely fantastic - I can't recommend them highly enough. Before I bought it, I assumed that IEMs would inevitably have worse bass than in-ear headphones due to their smaller drivers. This opinion turns out to be completely wrong: in-ear headphones have smaller drivers, but they don't work in such a large volume of air, and this ratio is important. The bass from Sony is as deep and clean as my JVC SZ-2000 - that's quite an achievement guys. The sound stage/separation is better than the SZ-2000 and better than a pair of old $200 Audio Technicas that I also own. Most importantly, they sound fantastic and are well balanced *WITHOUT* EQ, making them usable on the go. Many other headphones don't really sound their best if you don't connect them to a DSP, which makes it difficult to use them in practice on the go. Sound insulation is sufficient for city traffic. The medium earbuds are the best for me, they come in 3 sizes. Headphones are designed to wrap the cord around the ear, but the standard cord is so stiff I couldn't keep it in place. I finally got rid of it altogether by buying an MMCX adapter and wearing them as in-ear headphones with the cord down rather than around the ear. This worked well for me - more comfortable and no issues with falling out. Pros: * Amazing sound. Powerful bass with a balanced overall aesthetic.* Excellent value for money. I used to pay double for the worst headphones. Warnings:* Very basic packaging - plain white box, all in Japanese, not even a picture. Looks lazy, but it's very clear from the sound that this is the real deal. Sony Japan - no personal experience with it * The standard cable is complete scrap. Get rid of it immediately and buy an MMCX adapter.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
