Should have read the reviews. I also planned on painting them to match my closets. I persistently applied the stain even though it appeared to be clear. Now I wipe off the stain, which is a messy job because the clear coat stopped it from penetrating. They are sticky and sticky and obviously I had to sand them down before coloring. Also, I planned to install under my closets. Since my cabinets have a 1" ledge at the bottom, which is common for most cabinets, they don't work and I have less block to mount them otherwise the jars won't fit in the hole as they cover the overhang. So now I've cut out the blocks to lower my wooden wine racks that I need to sand down and hold. It became the business of the day. I'd love to find something else to use, but for now I'm dead set because I messed them up with a stain. The picture shows the stained blocks I used to knock down the wine racks below the cabinet ledge depth and the two later wine racks are the ones I whitewashed the stain from. What a mess. With their natural finish, they would be ideal for the inside of a closet. But I didn't need them for that.
