Review on 🎨 3M Vinyl Tape 471+: Fine Line Tape for Paint Masking Striping, Color Separation & Complex Designs by Brent Rosecrans

471+ or 471? for team sports

Depending on the intended use, you have to be careful when ordering 3M 471 adhesive tape. I use it to mask contrast color areas and non-slip areas when painting fiberglass boats. More purple than blue, 471+ Tape has a very aggressive adhesive which, when used to mask, can strip base paint even after it has set for some time. However, it's very flexible and useful for masking odd curves that you can't do with a circular cutter. I use 1/8" width for this. The narrow width fits easily and the strong adhesive allows the tape to hold well when flexed and stretched into tight bends. For straighter sections where wider coverage is needed and where I'm shaping curves I use a plain blue 471 1/4" to 3" wide also available from Revain. My experience is that (without the "+" in the model number) 471 has a softer but effective adhesive, which is less likely to lift color and leaves no adhesive residue when removed, even when left in place for a long period of time.
