🎨 3M Vinyl Tape 471+: Fine Line Tape for Paint Masking Striping, Color Separation & Complex Designs Review

After trying many brands of ribbon I finally found a ribbon that you can use to draw endless lines. It handles corners well and makes tight turns. Not all fineline tapes are created equal and this one is the best. The downside is you get about half the amount of tape than another brand. They get about 36 yards when others usually give 60 yards. However, this band works better than most and I will buy it again

I use this tape to mask the curved areas of hard edged acrylic paintings on primed canvas. It adheres strongly but does not lift the undercoat of paint. It stretches enough not to sag on the inside edge of the turn. To make sure the paint doesn't bleed through at all, I apply a coat of acrylic medium around the edge of the tape on the side I'm going to paint on. This creates an impermeable coating. The best tape I've ever used for this.

I wanted to do stripes on my Yamaha R1 and wasn't sure if this product would work for my two tone tank painting. I did not do it. High temp tape is a must, but vinyl material (no crepe) gives a very clean line and peels cleanly. I have a 1/2 thickness (thickness is hard to come by but perfect for bike proportions). I will definitely keep using this tape! I will post a video showing the whole process.

I bought this tape to create my own custom paint job on my bike (which I crashed last summer) during the 'Covid-19 lockdown' last spring. This tape worked great! Very, very, very happy with the results. I'm not a professional artist at all. This tape made it very easy to create complex and detailed drawings during the recording process. It also produces very sharp lines (no smearing of paint) and is very flexible for curved shapes. Definitely recommend!

This is a great seller, well packaged and shipped quickly. As for the product, I've been using 3M 471 masking tape for over 20 years. It gives a razor sharp edge and works with all varnishes, enamels and acrylics, every paint I've used it with hasn't affected it. It doesn't leave a mark or lift the undercoat like a lot of tape does. This product isn't cheap, but it's worth it if you want to make a quality painting. I use it for model airplanes, rockets and haven't found anything better.

Depending on the intended use, you have to be careful when ordering 3M 471 adhesive tape. I use it to mask contrast color areas and non-slip areas when painting fiberglass boats. More purple than blue, 471+ Tape has a very aggressive adhesive which, when used to mask, can strip base paint even after it has set for some time.
