Oh now it's totally worth the one-time cost, all you have to do is shake it in plain water and get gold. It holds its shape well, the only thing is that it flows slower as it's thicker than a regular backing. If possible, adjust the inlet flow so that it does not overflow. 09/29/17 So I'm still using the original filters that I cut out for my various filters and they still work great. Another plus is that I was able to fill another aquarium with the used filters without any problems. I save a lot of money on filters.
