I dodged a bullet - this heater keeps my boat mold free. It worked fine for 10 hours, then it stopped. Upon closer inspection, the plastic base was seen to have melted slightly, so I removed the base and found that most of the inside was melted and charred. 3 wires, the main power supply and two (probably high and low heat) were connected together with a joint that overheated badly and melted/burned the insulation of 2 or 3 inches each. Eventually one (the electricity) seemed to burn out before it got hot enough to ignite something else. The power line from the plug is probably 20 gauge wire or less, WAY too small for 1000 watts. It is also important that the power line is connected to a safety switch and the "hot" wires from an element with automotive-style bayonet connectors. It was one of them that heated up to the point of failure. Definitely an unsafe device by US or EU standards, despite the label on the bottom. I don't see how this can be CE approved with such a small cable and essentially low voltage connections. One more thing: the heating element doesn't appear to have a thermostat, at least not an adjustable one. Settings: Low, High, Off, Low with Twist, High with Twist so the item appears to be on all the time. I would never recommend this heater as is. The power line should be replaced with approximately 16 or 14 gauge wire and bayonet connectors with approved 120V AC connectors. Aside from the size of the cables and connectors, the heater feels well built, well adjusted and finished.
