I chose these because they are very cheap compared to the big brands and they still do the job well. The old sponge was too dirty to continue filtering normally even after I pushed it out until I saw more brown water, but there must be something stuck in it and the force of the water will just push it all the way out of the hole. basket, leave it and bio rings in the air. I threw it away and popped in one of these and never reappeared from the trash. I added a bacterial supplement to the water knowing I probably threw a lot on the old sponge. So far no cycle failures. :)
